President Donald Trump has terminated temporary protected status for all Somalis in Minnesota, he announced on Friday evening.

The Truth Social announcement followed a City Journal report alleging millions of Minnesota taxpayer dollars were stolen in a fraud scheme and fell into the pockets of the Somali-based al Shabaab terrorist group.

“Minnesota, under Governor Waltz (sic), is a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity. I am, as President of the United States, hereby terminating, effective immediately, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS Program) for Somalis in Minnesota. Somali gangs are terrorizing the people of that great State, and BILLIONS of Dollars are missing. Send them back to where they came from. It’s OVER!” Trump wrote.

The City Journal investigation found what authors Ryan Thorpe and Christopher F. Rufo called a “Minnesota drowning in fraud.”

“Federal counterterrorism sources confirm that millions of dollars in stolen funds have been sent back to Somalia, where they ultimately landed in the hands of the terror group Al-Shabaab,” the report reads. “As one confidential source put it: ‘The largest funder of Al-Shabaab is the Minnesota taxpayer.’”

Trump did not provide any details on how his announced plan would unfold, or explicitly connect his Truth Social post to the report.

Minnesota has the highest Somali population of any state in the U.S.

As of March 31, 705 Somalis were covered by temporary protected status in the U.S., according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services data reported to the Congressional Research Service.

Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) did not respond to the Washington Examiner‘s request for comment, which was after regular business hours.
