The Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) has officially expanded its operations into the digital realm. On Wednesday, December 24, the department established a dedicated Cyber Patrol Unit. This new division is operational immediately.
PHP Additional Inspector General of Police, Dr. Athar Waheed, issued the official orders for the unit’s formation. Consequently, the team has started monitoring social media and other digital platforms to ensure online public safety.
The primary mandate of the Cyber Patrol Unit is clear. It will track online content specifically related to the Punjab Highway Patrol. Furthermore, the unit will actively identify and counter misinformation circulating on various digital platforms.
Officials emphasised that this initiative encourages responsible digital conduct among the public. By monitoring these channels, the PHP aims to curb the spread of false information regarding law enforcement operations.
In addition to monitoring, the unit focuses on service delivery. It will identify public complaints raised on social media. Dr. Waheed has directed the unit to coordinate closely with relevant wings. This collaboration ensures timely reporting and prompt responses to public issues.
