PS5 Sales Now Top 84.2 Million Units, Well on Way to 100 Million Milestone 1

PS5 shipped another 3.9 million units in the quarter ending 30th September, pushing the console above 84.2 million units lifetime and closer to its inevitable 100 million units milestone.

Sales were up 100k units year-over-year, meaning the system’s performance remains flat, despite higher prices and a challenging economic environment.

Practically every category of PlayStation’s business increased year-over-year, with first-party sales (aided by Ghost of Yotei) up from 5.3 million units to 6.3 million units.

Monthly active users (accurate as of the end of the quarter) also rose from 116 million users to 119 million users. This positions the firm well for a positive holiday season, as it looks to topple its record of 129 million users.

Across both the PS5 and PS4, Sony sold 80.3 million pieces of software throughout the quarter in total, up significantly on the 77.7 million it managed during the same period the year prior.

So, this is a very steady sales report from the firm then, with sales up year-over-year and only operating income down ever so slightly. It’ll now be looking forward to a strong holiday season, buoyed by a new Christmas marketing campaign.
