Hyderabad: Reacting to the Osmania University Law College campus protests over stale food allegedly being served for several days, BRS senior leader and former Minister T Harish Rao called it a reflection of the dismal state of the education system under the two-year-old Congress government.

Videos and photos circulating on social media showed students displaying poor quality of rice served and students complaining of insects and bad odour in the meals.

Launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, he said the Congress government had failed to maintain basic standards in student welfare schemes inherited from the previous BRS regime. In a post on X, Harish Rao said even though there was no grain to eat, they are out to apply scented oil to their moustaches.

“That’s exactly how Revanth Reddy’s attitude looks. Students of OU Law College coming on to the roads protesting spoiled food in the mess is a mirror to the pathetic condition of the education system today,” he said.

“The Chief Minister who boasted he would give Rs 1,000 crore to Osmania University cannot even provide one decent meal to the students. This is nothing but shameful. Be it meat curry without meat in government schools, rice with worms in Gurukul schools, or now rotten food in universities – is this the great achievement of Congress in two years?” he asked, adding that at every step, the government’s criminal negligence towards universities was clearly visible.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has completely failed as the in-charge minister of the education department, he said, appealing to the Chief Minister to stop endangering the future and health of students with his incompetence.
